Crystal Palace have officially announced the appointment of former Liverpool, Bolton and England coach Sammy Lee as assistant manager in Sam Allardyce's back-room staff.

Lee famously worked with Allardyce for several years at Bolton, dubbed 'Little Sam' during that time, as the club regularly challenged the big clubs in the top half of the Premier League.

"I am looking forward to once again working with Sammy," Allardyce told CPFC.co.uk.

"It was great working with him at Bolton and is someone who has a wealth of experience both at club and international level over the years as well."

Allardyce has had a poor start to life at Selhurst Park since taking over from the sacked Alan Pardew shortly before Christmas.

A positive draw against Watford on Boxing Day was quickly followed by successive defeats at the hands of Arsenal and relegation rival Swansea, while the Eagles could only draw 0-0 in the weekend's FA Cup tie against Bolton, now in League One.
